Update on Cricut Design Space Policy

Julie Flanagan

Cricut has heard our complaints loudly and clearly. Thanks to all who submitted their concerns to Cricut regarding the planned monthly limit on uploads to Cricut Design Space. You can see the new post regarding their revised policy here: https://inspiration.cricut.com/a-letter-to-the-cricut-community-from-ashish-arora-cricut-ceo/
This new policy means that all who register their Cricut Explore and Maker machines before December 31, 2021, will have a lifetime of free uploads to Cricut Design Space with or without a paid subscription to Cricut Design Space.

Since users of Legacy Cricut Machines cannot use Cricut Design Space with their cutters, the Cricut Design Space policies do not apply to use of legacy Cricut machines such as the original Expression, Cricut Personal (Bug), Create, Cake, or Cake Mini.

We continue to support in this group, all cutter users who use Make The Cut software in combination with any other software, regardless of the machine used.

WOW!!!!  That is AWESOME.  I am so very happy as I was trying to upload like a mad woman.  I can now just go thru all my designs to delete what I don't need and reorganize everything.
He deserves a HUGH thanks.

On a cricut fb page there are some who are suspicious because of the wording.   On that page it says they said for the ‘lifetime of the MACHINE’, not the user.  We all know machines die eventually.

Does anyone have a clarification on that?  They also asked the question, what if you buy a new machine when one dies…..after 12/31?  But you’ve already been registered user?

They need to clarify for folks.

Julie,

I hate to say this but I think it is in line with the idea of them going public and increasing sales.. hoping to generate sales by the end of the year so people will register their new machines in time. I still think they are biting the hands that feed them.

They signed on as sponsors to so many influencers, provided free machines and products to them, allowed businesses to be built up using the machines and software, promoting Cricut products. and now they want to charge people to use the files created by the people that have promoted their products. Now, December, January.... what difference does a couple months make? The bottom line is that people will be charged to use the files created by the businesses that have freely promoted Cricut, and put the same people in a really bad situation.
It is just so wrong, start to finish
glad for the delay, glad voices worked, but this person here will never own a cricut product. well, except good old faithful billion year old expression. it, like the energizer bunny, just keeps going!
and, I dooo appreciate all your time and help with MTC!
Linda

On a cricut fb page there are some who are suspicious because of the wording.   On that page it says they said for the ‘lifetime of the MACHINE’, not the user.  We all know machines die eventually.

Does anyone have a clarification on that?  They also asked the question, what if you buy a new machine when one dies…..after 12/31?  But you’ve already been registered user?

They need to clarify for folks.

Linda

I was wondering myself.  I got a Joy for Christmas and I started a new job 9 days before, so needless to say, I have not even had time to take it out of the box, which I had planned on doing this weekend.  This just adds to my many machines, portable to take to my cabin and scrapbooking retreats, I am hoping it will be grandfathered in under my account!

It sound like if you plug it in and get it registered any machine by  12/31/21 you can be grandfathered in.  I went back and made sure all my machines were registered so we will see.

What are you looking for? There are a lot of sources for legitimate, quality designed free SVG files. If someone has purchased an SVG, legally they cannot share it.

This is the email I received today updating info from CEO Cricut.

Dear Cricut Members,

On Friday, March 12, we announced an intention to limit the number of personal images and patterns that members can upload to Design Space without a Cricut Access subscription. We updated this plan on March 16 and shared that we intended to study the matter further. My team has spent the week listening, learning, and taking in a lot of feedback. Not every decision we make is perfect, but we take every opportunity to learn and get better.
So, we’ve made the decision to reverse our previously shared plans. Right now, every member can upload an unlimited number of images and patterns to Design Space for free, and we have no intention to change this policy. This is true whether you’re a current Cricut member or are thinking about joining the Cricut family before or after December 31, 2021.
We care deeply about every single member of our community, and it’s your creativity that keeps us motivated, excited, and passionate every day about what we’re building here at Cricut.

Thank you for your candor and your commitment to our company and community. We appreciate you.
