HI MTC friends

I still use the old C ofcourse with MTC.

I bought the Cameo 4  (before my C died) and learned a lot from

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCks2b8h3fnWhOXbIZ1nwmyw

She explains on an easy way how to use Silhouette Cameo.

I bought the business edition. So I can import  SVG files and export to SVG.

I also bought SCAL 5.

I have learned alot of the tutorials from Julie. Thanks.

I hope we can use MTC fo a long time.

Kind regards from The Netherlands.

Yes, if you use Cricut Explore or Maker machines that require the use of Cricut Design Space to cut to your machine, with this new policy, you will be allowed to upload only 20 designs a month to cut to your machine. You can use unlimited designs available in Cricut Desing Space, but if you purchase or use designs from other software, the number of uploads of SVG files and images will be limited.

Julie,

Just to be clear if you want to use  You're Explorer 2 or newer cricut machines you have to purchase a subscription??  So if we design it in another software and sent to the cricut to cut you can only do it 20 times a month??

Unless you sign up, I thought this was free so now there will be charging??

Thanks for always keeping us informed.

Subject: [MTC-Tuts] Cricut Design Space Changes Coming

Changes coming to Cricut Design Space-Good and BAD! Cricut Design Space will soon be adding an offset feature (AKA outline, shadow layer). This is a good, long overdue feature. Now for the BAD new feature. If you do not purchase their membership plan, Cricut Access, you will be limited to uploading ONLY 20 of your own designs from other software per month. This is a problem for me, and for many people who share free designs with Cricut Design Space users. All users who collect free SVG files to use with their Cricut Explore or Maker machines will be limited to using only up to 20 of those designs per month, or be forced to pay for a subscription. I don't need access to Cricut designs, because I design my own. But if I want to cut them on my Expore or Maker I have to use their software. Now they want to force me to PAY to cut more than 20 of my own designs per month?

I hope there will be an uprising among Cricut users to stop this foolishness!!!!!! I suspect that this is illegal. People should be able to cut their own designs on machines that they purchased without having to pay for a subscription. Especially since there is no other software that allowed to cut to these machines.

I already feel like a slave to illegal mask mandates and lockdowns. This new Cricut policy smacks of further control that I cannot tolerate.

What do you think? If this new policy bothers you, I hope you will join me in complaining to Cricut.

I did chat on line with cricut and the guy said that they plan on implementing the 20/month upload thing next month.  I sent an email of complaint to cricut too but it just came back to me that I was not an approved person to that site.  I got the email address from the chat guy.

These files should import into Cricut Design Space. However, you could import them all into MTC on a single screen, then select all and export as a single SVG and import into Cricut Design space so that you can use them on your Maker, and still only use a single of your 20 uploads for the month.

Julie,
I know how to do that but the issue is, I do not have a cutter that will cut from MTC any more.  The maker won't do that and I am trying to sell my blackcat cougar as it's just way too big for my area.

I did chat on line with cricut and the guy said that they plan on implementing the 20/month upload thing next month.  I sent an email of complaint to cricut too but it just came back to me that I was not an approved person to that site.  I got the email address from the chat guy.

Oh, yes I can.  It's a royal pain in the butt.  I am thinking of an add'l cutter to the maker I have but I first need to sell the Blackcat Cougar I have.  I have had it listed on ebay, etsy, and my nextdoor sites for a LONG time.  I am not on fb so I can't do that.  Oh, the times we are in.

So what is happening is that the SVG is embedded into a web page, the html extension is a web page. You should be able to mouse on the image, right click and save to your computer, make sure that it saves as something_you_name.svg

Thanks but that's all Greek to me.  The files somehow are saved like this : Microsoft Edge HTML Document.   When I double click on that, it opens in a screen that I attached.   VERY confusing, to say the least.
I did chat on line with cricut and the guy said that they plan on implementing the 20/month upload thing next month.  I sent an email of complaint to cricut too but it just came back to me that I was not an approved person to that site.  I got the email address from the chat guy.
Oh well.  Such is life.

Lettering Delights has files in various formats. Their Graphic designs download as PNG format. Downloaded Graphic designs can be uploaded to Cricut Design Space. You can import the SVG files from Cut Sets into Make The Cut. Select All (Ctrl+A) and export as Raster File. In the window that opens, select PNG and Save. Upload that PNG file to Cricut Design Space. Go to your Account at their site, and go to Downloads to see all of your purchases.

These are SVG files for you to import or upload to your software. Open MTC. Go to File>Import>SVG and select the file you want. It should now show on your MTC virtual mat.

You can cut to the Pazzles Inspiration machine from Make The Cut directly. But you cannot cut to the Pazzles Vue directly from Make The Cut. SCAL5 will cut directly to Pazzles Vue. You can design in  MTC, export as SVG, and import into Pazzles InVue software and From Pazzles InVue to MTC. I do this all the time. It is quick and easy, with no resizing needed. No membership required to use their software.  However, if you do want their membership, you can get the Pazzles Vue machine and software for $90 with a 2-year commitment to the Pazzles Craft Room. If you don't want a Craft Room membership, the least expensive way to purchase the machine is to join the Pazzles Craft Room for 1 month, and use the 15% discount to purchase the machine outright. You basically get the wholesale price that way.

I promise I will start reading on their website but meanwhile...can I use MTC with a Pazzles machine or would I have to learn the Pazzles software?  Do you have to have a membership to use the machine?
Thanks,

Meanwhile, I think you will find that the Pazzles Vue is a much better cutter than Cricut Explore models, as it cuts with up to 1000 grams of pressure. Cricut Explore only cuts with about 350 grams. Even the regular blade on the Maker is limited to about 350 grams of cutting pressure. You have to purchase extra attachments to get more pressure out of the Maker.  The software that ships with Pazzles is much better than Cricut software. It has the same optical reader as Cricut Explore and Maker, but allows you to cut around printed images up to 8.5"x11" rather than the much smaller cutting area allowed by Cricut Design Space. Pazzles has the same click blade assembly as the older Cricut Machines, and the mats autoload nicely. This is a great multi-purpose cutter.

Julie

Scan N Cut machines also cut much better than Cricut Explore models, as they cut with up to 1250 grams of cutting pressure, and will cut around printed images up to 11.5"x11.5" I design in Make The Cut or Pazzles InVue software, place my SVG cutting files on a thumb drive directly into either of my Scan N Cut machines and cut from there. I have the older CM600 and the DX225. You have to learn to harness all of this extra power. The autoblade feature on the DX225 is nice, and the machine runs very quietly. But the DX series has issues with cutting vinyl. The CM models cut vinyl fine. I use my Scan N Cut machines for scanning, and cutting around stamped or printed images. There is free software that works with Scan N Cut machines which is a lot better than Cricut Design Space, but not quite as good as Pazzles software.

I have the original Cameo because I thought that I might like to use it for cutting designs that I purchased from the Silhouette Online Store. I did like cutting to it from Make The Cut. Cameo cutting pressure is only up to about 210 grams, and is totally inadequate for the heavier cardstock and 3D papercrafts that I like to do. Cameo 1-3 are only rated to cut up to medium weight cardstock. I was hopeful that when they came out with Cameo 4 that they would add more pressure to the standard blade. But that was the elusive dream. Again, I found that to use all the massive extra pressure on the Cameo 4, I would have to purchase extra special blades and tools. My original Silhouette Studio 2.0 DE still allows me to export SVG files from the Silhouette Online Store, and I don't want to give up that option to use the SS Business Edition that I purchased. If I want to use the latest SS software required for used with the Cameo 4, I would have to delete my 2.0 version. It somehow interferes with the latest version of their software. Cameo is fine for print and cut, lightweight cardstock, and vinyl. So if that is all you care to do with a cutter, then a Cameo 4 might work for you. But again, you are locked in to their proprietary format if using images from the their online store, or you will have to pay an extra fee to download those files in SVG format. I prefer cutting the files I purchase from them on my Pazzles or even Scan N Cut. But I am not willing to pay extra just to be able to use any of those nearly 30,000 cutting files that I have purchased from them on my other cutters. So I use my work arounds. Silhouette Studio software does have many great design features. You can import or export your own design files in SVG format if you own the Business Edition (an extra one time cost.)

I consider both Cricut and Cameo as Entry-level cutters. If you are serious about your craft, I recommend getting a cutter that has more design and cutting capabilities. When you get simplified machines and software, you limit yourself to basic software and cutter functions.  These entry level machines are fine to play with until you find what you really want to do with them. But you should plan to outgrow them at some point as you find your preferred niche.

KNK machines are no longer sold, but you can get a Sky Cut machine instead. If you only cut vinyl, you might want to consider a wider format dedicated vinyl cutter such as US Cutter. But before you buy, make sure that you can get it with SCAL, if that is the software you prefer to use.  Before purchasing a machine, check out the software that works with it, and make sure that the machine is capable of doing what you want to do most. Everyone here is welcome to share your experiences with other cutters.

Re: silhouette driver

Julie Flanagan

Make The Cut only has the driver for the original Cameo, unfortunately. You can use SCAL5, though with any of the Cameo machines. SCAL5 has drivers for almost any cutter on the market. You can still design in Make The Cut if you like, then select all (Ctrl+A) then export as SVG (Ctrl+Shift+S), and you can import that into SCAL5 or to Sillhouette Studio DE or higher  for cutting . These SVG files will also work in other software as well.

I don't know how to start a new thread.  Can someone please start a new thread about other machines that they are happy with other than Cricut?

I have a KNK Maxx but it's not portable and actually takes more effort to use cause you have to manually reset the blade each time you change your product.  I do love using MTC with it.

I was looking at the Scan N Cut before I got my air 2 but choose the Cricut only because it would let me cut anything I want and I could also use my cartridges in a program for welding and such.

Maybe there is a chart out there comparing all the different machines?

Someone in BB was asking the salespeople if they sold Cricut.  Of course they don’t.  It’s an electronic store, not a crafting store, but I couldn’t help but overhear.

I told them not to waste their money, and why.  Telling them what Cricut was up to.  They said thanks for the info.  They were shocked.

And I wasn’t hurting Best Buy, lol!  They don’t sell Cricut.

That will NOT teach cricut anything. they will only see this as GAINING more customers. telling them they can do this again if they want.
only way to teach them a lesson is to hit them in the wallet. stop paying them money, stop buying their products. support other companies who don't force you to spend, spend, spend and give nothing in return.
