Re: Make the Cut Software

The pages on the MTC website (www.make-the-cut.com) are all hopelessly outdated. So that bit about the $59.95 or whatever it was, has never been changed or updated since it was put there like 9 years ago. So I guess we can assume it has expired as it appears there is no way to get that pricing.

I also understand that you will be issued an MTC registration code if you purchase now. Do not purchase PCS because that is broken and an MTC code is issued not a PCS one.

The function to deliver your registration key if you lost it is broken, although it may appear that it is working. Testing done by a group of us proves you NEVER get an email.

I agree that it is not right to sell something and then leave the customer high and dry. I think its fraudulent, to be honest. I do not respect the developer for letting this happen, it's not like he has not received MANY, MANY personal emails about it, he chooses not to either read and/or respond. At that point, the only recourse is to start a legal action...costly!

I think most of us have just given up on those points. But we still support as best we can given the limitations.

Julie, Can anyone give us an idea concerning how to find the files that remain in MTC's library? I would like to find at least one image that is still in there to see if I can get it to upload into MTC. This would let me (us) know if this is my (our) specific problem in getting the blank page.

Thanks for your help!!

You can still download the free trial version to give it a try.

The main things that we are having difficulty with right now are recovering lost registration keys and about half of the software Gallery is not working. Newer cutters are not supported. However, if you have your registration key, Make The Cut is still very competitive software with advanced editing features that other software does not have. It allows you to import many file types, and export SVG files for use in other software.

If you ever purchased Make The Cut, and have saved your registration key in a safe place, you can download the latest version for free, and enjoy all of its great features. You can also use Make The Cut 4.1.0 to cut to your older Cricut Legacy machines.

iPortis was the first distributor of registration keys for MTC....way back in 2010 I believe. We have had 2 other distributors since.

If you bought a Zing and got your PIN from KNK, they may have a record of your registration key as they were copied on all emails sent to their customers when they bought a Zing and MTC.

Hope that helps!

Re: Files for this group

SCAL 5 along with a third party plugin available on the internet can be made to work with the Cricut cutters that early MTC and SCAL supported.

SCAL 5 can import MTC files. Then when you have the MTC file on your mat, you would export it to SVG format. No bulk file conversion utility right now. Maybe some day???? Hopeful!

SCAL supports many cutters so I think it is about as future proof as you can get. The Developer continues to support more cutters, updates as bugs are found in the software.

There is an upgrade price for SCAL, so if you have an earlier version you would pay for the upgrade price. If you don't have early SCAL version info, there's a place on the craftedge.com website to get that info emailed to you so the upgrade version will work.

Hopefully there is something that can work for you.

You may see a thumbnail of a design in the Gallery, but it may not work if it was added before 2013. There were over 15,000 files in the Gallery, but some were lost from the server for unknown reasons. I think that there are only half of those that are usable in the Gallery right now. However the lost files and more have been restored, and made available by Sandy McCauley on a Google Drive.

In so many ways, for years already and still now…

Even though they themselves get along with everything very routinely they take their time and effort to help others that are still trying to get a grip on things…..

Admirable and so wonderfull!

Thanks a lot and have a great holiday and please keep safe!

Andy, the developer of Make The Cut, moved on to a regular job to support his family. He has not made it available for others to continue development of the products, for whatever reason. Andy is still supporting his products as he is still paying for the server space where the Gallery Files are stored, as well as the site for the Forum, and the webinar videos.

Andy participated in a number of the Webinars. The Webinars were run by volunteers in the format of Q and A. Bryan, a volunteer, took care of recording the webinars.  A number of volunteers helped to answer the webinar questions with pertinent demonstrations, and a few others worked on providing webinar summaries, and created the topical spreadsheets. I extracted my webinar demos using the latest version of MTC, and posted them on YouTube to make specific topics available there.

During those webinars, all topics were covered multiple times in a variety of ways. Those who regularly attended the webinars learned how to effectively use Make The Cut and Popup Card Studio to create and edit cutting files and to master use of the software features. In doing so, the skills learned can readily be applied, even now, to other vector software.

The developer moved on to other things.

There are YouTube/Vimeo videos from multiple sources, which ones are you referring to? He only sort of guested on most of the ones produced as the weekly webinars available on the forum.

The source code belongs to the developer, he can do what he wants with it, and if that's to not support it nor further develop it, that's his prerogative, and while I may not like it, it is what it is.

Just sayin'!

I have many YouTube videos covering Make The Cut, and this group has over a thousand pages of step-by-step, illustrated, graded, printable tutorials to help you learn to use Make The Cut.

What happened to the developer?

Seems like the developer could make the source code for the system available as open source if they no longer want to support it.

And, was the developer the same person who did all the YouTube/Vimeo videos?

Actually, there is still lots of support for Make The Cut, although not from the developer. This group supports Make The Cut, the Make the Cut Forum is still available, There are Facebook groups that support it, and hundreds of Webinar Videos are available on Vimeo along with a searchable database to help you find the webinar topics that cover your questions.
