Re: question about the Thumbnail viewer

Thumbnail viewers work with Windows Explorer, so they should work with files not matter where on the computer they are located, including thumb drives, SD cards, external drives, CD, DVD, etc. Julie, craftymusician@... Re: pdf files

You can import the page of prints by using Texturize Path, Blackout Path, and set the threshold to 245, Apply, then import. Screen resolution is low. You can see what the printed project will look like by going to the File menu at the top of the screen, and selecting Print Preview. Julie, craftymusician@... Re: Cutting doilies on a Zing...ARRRGGG
Julie Flanagan
Cutting intricate designs such as doilies requires some very careful test cutting to determine: 1. Best blade depth for your paper. Extend the blade only enough to cut through the top layer of a folded piece of that paper with the blade in your hand. 2. Best force: Do some test cuts with a star inside a square, sized to .5". Start with a very low pressure. Move the design after each cut to another position. Increase the pressure by 5 with each cut, until the design is cut cleanly. Write down the pressure that worked best and the type of paper. You can use the chart in the lessons called I.11_PersonalMediaSettingsChart.pdf posted here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MTC_Tuts/files/01_Introductory_Lessons/ 3. Slow down your speed to 10. The faster speeds do not cut as accurately. 4. Use the blade with the red cap for tiny detail like this. If you cannot get your test cut to work at any force, you probably need a new blade. I use Cutter Glide on the tip of each new blade to help it cut through paper with less friction, thus improving detailed cuts. 5. Set the blade offset to 35 in the cutting window. 6. Make sure your mat is sticky. 7. Use heavier, crispy paper. Heavier paper tears less. Some mushy paper will not cut any detail cleanly. Dehumidify the paper if necessary using a heat tool, blow dryer, iron, oven, etc. to see if cuts improve. 8. Make sure that you are using the latest plugin update, which 2.02. Click on the down arrow in the upper right corner of the cutting window to see which version you are using. I got much better cuts after updating to the latest plugin. 9. Check your blade holder to make sure there are no tiny pieces of paper trapped inside. The blade needs to swivel freely. 10. Raise the blade holder in the jaw slightly so that 25 post it notes fit under the tip of the blade. I use a number 6 rubber O ring from the hardware store. Be sure to tighten the white screw firmly so that the holder is held firmly in position. See the photos of my blade holder with the O ring and packaging here: 11. Update to the latest version of MTC, 4.3.10 right now, to make the software run faster and more efficiently. I was not getting the best cuts on Monica's detailed designs on my Zing until I again went through this check list, step by step. We would love to see your finished doilies! Julie, craftymusician@... Now, mind you...I do not *yet* understand what it means to 'trace by color' LOL But I will get there as I will likely have both programs :) Unless 'trace by color' just means the outside lines that are different colors depending on whether you are printing or cutting? Not even sure I asked that correctly! Sorry *blush*, I will get there once I have my machine! Although I am watching tuts on video, I need to watch them more often. Sherri

No need to worry about EQ7 if you don't already know. I believe it is the file format for software that quilters use. Julie, craftymusician@... Flanagan Educational Services Purchase MTC: tinyurl.com/JF-MTC2 Purchase Pazzles: http://tinyurl.com/Pazzles-JF http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MTC_Tuts/

Re: pdf files
Julie Flanagan
What is the source of the PDF files? If the PDF files do not have cutting lines in them, you will not get a preview in the preview window. But you will have the option at the bottom of the import window to import using Pixel Trace. Select that option, and the Pixel trace window will open automatically for you to set the trace options to bring it in to MTC. If the PDF does have cutting lines, then the image should show in the Preview window for you to import. Sometimes the image you want in the file is on a different page. If there is more than one page in the file, you should be able to use the up arrow to preview another page, under the preview window. For additional help with importing PDF files, see page 9 of the tutorial called II.03_ImportingFilesToMTC.pdf posted here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MTC_Tuts/files/02_Basic%20Lessons/ Julie, craftymusician@...
