Ok with this logic I would be an=ble to find everything.  BUT, I would have to guess that the files are not always named what I think.

I don't worry about organizing files too much :), other than some specific
folders for specific things, MyProjects, MyFonts, MyDownloads, MyDocs (which
replaces My Documents which I have moved off the default c:\ drive),
SonyPhotos (because we all have Sony cameras) and folders named by year for
my graphics sharing groups (which is just all under one groupname, the one
that shares the most). I learned a long time ago in the good OLD DOS days
how to "find" files on a computer, and then when Windows arrived, its search
feature just made the process even more delightful.

I can search by a partial name and file type, in a folder or the whole drive
(I have two hard drives and they are both partitioned), or by graphic type
(png or jpg or psp or svg or mtc) or by application. I can search within any
document that has text for a specific string of text if I am not sure if it's
a Word doc or PowerPoint or whatever.

I guess I have adapted Einstein's logic...why should I remember it if I can
look it up :). It has worked admirably for me over the years, and I can't
say I have ever had an issue of not finding what I want, and I forgo that
maddening drilling down through a multi-folder structure, let alone the time
for creating of all those hundreds of folders. I also ensure that my
computer displays the extension of all files, which by default Windows hides
from users, so unless you make the change, your files are call Rose, rose,
ROSE, rOSE, and if you don't recognize the icon, you don't know what type of
file they are, and even if you did, the same icon may be used for jpg and
png. I also always use the Detail View, this lists everything showing
folders alpha first, and then files, and I can see the Name of the file, the
Size, the Type, the Date Created, Date Modified plus a few other columns you
can add if you like. This allows me to sort by any of that metadata, so I
can find the most recent file, or the oldest file, or group all the Excel
files together alpha by file name by choosing to sort by the Type.

If I was looking for a graphic that was a rose, because most people would
put the word rose in the name of the file they created, I just start my
search at a specific drive (in my case it's the drive with the letter g:\)
where those files are, search for *rose*.*....that searches for any
file/folder with rose in any part of the name, and if a file with rose in
the name exists in a zip file, I get that too. A few seconds later, I have a
list, and if I want I can save the search so I can run it again. Works for
me!!!!!!! I'd be working on my file while some of you are still opening
folders looking for yours, LOL, by the sounds of it!!!

Another useful tip for you...most programs will remember the last folder
where you opened a file from (and in MTC's case, where you imported a file
from) - and these can be two different folders. MTC also remembers where you
Saved, Saved As, or Exported to...so if you have a brain disconnect and you
can't remember where something got saved, then just put something on the mat
and File => Save or Export....whatever folder opens, is probably the first
place you should look for it.

I think I am just frustrated when I go to look for something I know I have
seen or even already completed and then can't find it. Are any of you
keeping something like a note book with pics and instructions? I have also
been forgetting to take pics of my projects. This is so frustration to e
because I am a special education teacher and you have to be extremely
organized and lets just say that I am beyond anal about order. I can always
put my hand on what I want in the classroom. I have also thought that if I
create a blog this would help. Those of you with blogs is this true or just
more work to get worried about? Thanks for all the suggestions and ideas.

I have been away so have not been completely up to date with this thread so apologies if you have solved your problem.
 
My husband recently had a similar problem with Adobe which we could not solve using Internet Explorer but he did manage to do what he wanted using Firefox.  I also had a problem some months ago downloading images from Ancestry which turned out to be only using Internet Explorer whereas Firefox downloaded them perfectly well.

One of the things on this page is that the install of Adobe Reader was
corrupted and broke javascript.  Other possibilities having to do with Adobe
Reader being blocked by antivirus...  Good luck on this frustrating problem!

I have all 3 because many things will not run on anything EXCEPT explorer, and vice versa.   Many of our scouting applications, etc. run best on Firefox, but I have to have explorer, too.   Also have Chrome.

I'm also not sure if you fixed this problem or not but I just want to say that viewing PDFs in-browser is overrated. Why not just get Adobe Reader (standalone not plug in) or FoxIt, etc. and read the PDFs outside the browser. Much easier and more flexible anyway IMHO.

Where do I go to download Inkscape again(which version??) and what version of MTC was the latest one that worked with the Cricut? I just did some for a friend and I used the Heat Bond Lite sewableI
I don’t know the fabric but it was not super thin.  I did the cut test
by taking my bladeholder out of the machine and cut through the fabric.
It worked great.  We ironed this on burlap and it stuck.  It was a banner for an
outdoor wedding.

To add your design to My Shapes:
1. Select the shape by clicking on it. 
2. Type Ctrl+Shift+L or go to File>Export>Sel to Basic Shapes or Right click, select Export, Sel. to Basic Shapes.
3. Type the name of the file in the window that opens. Click on Add.

To retrieve your design from My Shapes
1. Type Ctrl+Shift+B or click on the Basic Shapes icon at the top of the screen.
2. Select Your Shapes from the Category menu. Files are listed by name alphabetically. Or you can search for your file using All Categories, and type in a word from your file name in the Find box. 
3. Double click on the shape your wish to use.

Could be an answer, but the post is a year and a half old, so I would assume
it was an issue with an older version of the browser, like 8. Win 7 requires
version 9.2 or greater.
 
I would uninstall Firefox and see if that fixes things.

Here's some interesting information:
One of the things on this page is that the install of Adobe Reader was
corrupted and broke javascript.  Other possibilities having to do with Adobe
Reader being blocked by antivirus...  Good luck on this frustrating problem!

I operating in Windows 7 and I'm all up to date on my
Adobe Reader and my IE is my default browers.
I also have tried not only downloading PDF files from this group,

I try to open all my zip files as I buy them, in case they don't d/l correctly or are somehow corrupt. After opening them, I file the zip in My Docs/2dvd/cutter folder to put on disc. I use the file name of the person/company where I bought/received my files, including the TOS, for the opened files. In that file, I now keep most all of the types of files. I have deleted the AI and DXF ones but the others I keep. If each type is in a separate folder, I usually take out the SVG and keep in the main folder so I can see pics of the files (using PSP....thx to whoever suggested that). I haven't sorted them beyond that yet as I don't really have that many (not like embroidery files where I have thousands!!).

Thanks for all these ideas for when I get those hundreds/thousands of files....working on it!! lol!

I have been away so have not been completely up to date with this thread so apologies if you have solved your problem.
 
My husband recently had a similar problem with Adobe which we could not solve using Internet Explorer but he did manage to do what he wanted using Firefox.  I also had a problem some months ago downloading images from Ancestry which turned out to be only using Internet Explorer whereas Firefox downloaded them perfectly well.

Sometimes if I'm not sure what folder I would have put a file in, I can open the dropbox folder on my computer and open the cut files folder. From there I use the search option at the top of the folder and search for something that would be a part of the file name. Then I view the results in thumnails mode.

I think I am just frustrated when I go to look for something I know I have seen or even already completed and then can’t find it.  Are any of you keeping something like a note book with pics and instructions?  I have also been forgetting to take pics of my projects.  This is so frustration to e because I am a special education teacher and you have to be extremely organized and lets just say that I am beyond anal about order.  I can always put my hand on what I want in the classroom.  I have also thought that if I create a blog this would help.  Those of you with blogs is this true or just more work to get worried about?  Thanks for all the suggestions and ideas.

The way I keep my files is I use Dropbox for my main folder, that way I won't loose my files. I unzip, always. Sometime there is a password so you want to make sure you can get it if it is required. I have a folder in the dropbox folder labeled 'cut files'. I use this one folder for all of my cut files (no matter what type they are). Inside the 'cut files' folder I have files named 'flowers', 'christmas', 'animals', 'celebration', 'holiday', etc. If the folder contains a lot of files, I break it down a little more. Example: 'animals' could break down to 'horses', 'cows', 'mice', 'cats', etc. Then I keep all the file types for a file in one folder. Say I download a horse but it has 3 different file formats, I keep them all together and always try to keep a picture in the folder too. When I want a horse file, I would go to dropbox, cut files, animals, horses (using thumbnails view) and look to see what I like for this project. Then I can look to see if I have the file format I need, or I can use what I have to make one. Also, each folder that contains the files is labeled with the initials from the person/place I got it and the initials also tell me what terms of use go with that file as I also keep a list of those in a folder. Lets say I get a cow running file from Quilling Patch. The folder with the files in it would be labeled 'cow running (QP)' and the terms of use is labeled (QP)Quilling Patch-tou. If I confused anyone, I am sorry. I can try to clear up any questions I created.

I organize all my downloads by source, then under each source I have folders for Birthday, Christmas, Sports, etc. That way I can search for all the birthday files then browse for the one I want to use.  I also save a picture of the cutting file.  It seems to work well.  Hope this helps.
